Applying for Costa Rica Tourist Visa

Costa Rica Tourist Visa is issued to citizens of any country who require a visa to travel to Costa Rica, the tourist visa is valid between 30 days and 90 days.

Documents required for Costa Rica Tourist Visa:

1. Visa application form

2. Two passport size photos.

3. Valid passport with expiry date of not less than six months, from the moment of the intended entrance to Costa Rica (original and copy).

4 . Original and copy of both sides of the ID card.

5. Original of current criminal records issued by the relevant Police Office. This certificate must be submitted with a Spanish translation and duly legalized.

6. Reservation of the return or travel continuation airplane ticket (it is not necessary to buy the ticket, as at this point the visa has not yet been approved).

7. Evidence of financial means:

+ Prove possession of real and personal property. Provide currently valid certificates issued by the Real Estate Registry.

+ Financial Reports. Necessarily, the average balance of the last three months must be provided. The certificates must contain the current balance and account history (debits and credits).

+ Employees. Employees must provide current order and/or letter from employer with letterhead and company stamp, indicating gross and net salary, years of service and position. At the Visa Application Process, the veracity of this situation should be confirmed.

+ Farmers. Provide evidence by means of invoices and sale contracts of agricultural products.

+ Merchants. Provide evidence of the existence of the business such as patents, tax receipts, operating permits and licenses. If you have employees provide the form issued by the Social Security Fund (Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social) which contains the list of them.

+ Retirees. Provide evidence of pension such as receipts, and a certification issued by competent authority stating period of time and date of retirement.

+ Full-time students. Provide certification of academic records. Provide evidence of economic solvency of their parents or legal guardian in conformity with the points above-noted. In case of sponsored students, attach a certification of the institution providing the grant. This document must specify the amount, term, and expenses the scholarship includes.

* Important Notes:

+ Cash or affidavits cannot be provided neither to the Consulates nor to the General Directorate as evidence of financial solvency.

+ Any other documentation that might be of interest of the Consulate in order to verify that the applicant has enough economic means of subsistence during his/her  permanence in Costa Rica. If the documents are in another language other than Spanish, the translation must be provided and duly legalized.

8. Proof for the tourist trip:

The applicant must present documents that demonstrate the touristic nature of its visit (hotel reservation, booked tours, vehicle reservation, any other documents that support the information stated in the application form)
