Visitors must obtain a U.K visa unless they are exempt. The following individuals can enter the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man without a visa:

1. As of right:

+ British Nationals (whether they have the right of abode in the UK or not) of the following categories:

– British citizens

– British Overseas Territories citizens

– British National (Overseas)

– British Overseas citizens

– British protected persons

– British subjects

+ Citizens of Commonwealth countries who have the right of abode in the United Kingdom under the Immigration Act 1971

+ European Union citizens

+ Citizens of non-EU member states of the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and Switzerland

2. Non-Visa Nationals

Citizens of the following 56 countries and territories are visa-exempt for stays in the UK of up to 6 months (or 3 months if they enter from the Republic of Ireland):

3. Electronic visa waiver (EVW)

Since December 2013, citizens of Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have been able to obtain an Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) online. This allows them to visit or study for up to six months without a visa. For stays longer than six months, a visa is required.
