How to Get New Zealand Student Visa?

Everyone who comes to study in New Zealand from overseas must meet certain rules and requirements. If you are coming to New Zealand to study for more than three months, you will need a student visa.

To apply for a student visa, you must meet student policy requirements:

1. Student Visa Application INZ 1012 (Original)

2. PERSONAL DOCUMENTS

+ Your current Passport (original), or certified copy of your passport (all pages) if you can’t submit your passport at lodgement stage.

+ 2 recent passport sized photos of passport quality

+ Your household book (Vietnamese nationals only)

+ Vietnamese identity card (Vietnamese nationals only)

+ Birth certificate

+ Family Supplementary Questionnaire

3. OFFER OF PLACE

A copy of the letter from the educational institute that offers you a place at their school. The letter must specify:

+ The name of the course;

+ The minimum time required to complete the course;

+ The tuition fee payable;

Whether the course and education provider meet foreign student requirements.

4. ACCOMMODATION GUARANTEE

Fee-paying students who are under the age of 18 must provide evidence of accommodation in New Zealand. This can be in the form of:

+ Confirmation from the school that accommodation is arranged by the school for fee-paying students who are under the age of 18; or

+ Letter from the person who provides accommodation to you. If you choose to live with your own designated caregiver, you have to provide evidence of approval from the school of your designated caregiver.

5. FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS

You must provide evidence that you or your family have sufficient funds to cover both your tuition fees and living expenses for the first 12 months of study (or course duration, if shorter).

You must show you have the equivalent of NZD 15,000.00 (USD 12,000) per year for courses lasting more than 36 weeks as living expenses.

For courses lasting less than 36 weeks you are required to show that you have 1,250NZD (1000USD) available per month of study.

Your funds must come from genuine source(s). You also need to provide verifiable and genuine evidence of ongoing and sustainable funds available to support your entire intended study plan.

Examples of ways that you could demonstrate sufficient funds:

+ A completed Financial Undertaking for a Student form – INZ 1014 PDF; or Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry (INZ 1025) ; together with an explanation of the relationship between the sponsor and the student and evidence of this relationship. More than one guarantor is permitted;

+ Bank account/s showing a regular savings history. Note: any newly opened account or recent large deposit must be explained, with supporting evidence as to where the money has come from;

+ Ownership of assets that are generating an income, such as residential rental properties (provide rental contract and evidence of tax payment for income from the lease) or agricultural land;

+ Evidence of your parents’ employment – including their employment contract and evidence of a regular salary/wage being paid to them;

+ Evidence of your parent’s business ownership, and the income the business is generating. Include documents such as business licenses, tax code registration, and income tax payments for the last 12 months.

6. EDUCATIONAL CERTIFICATES/ EVIDENCE OF EMPLOYMENT

You should provide evidence of your previous schooling, complete right through to the time of your application. This includes your attendance record, your academic results and any certificates attained. Include any current courses, English courses or part-time study.

If you have been working, then please supply evidence of your employment in addition to educational certificates.

7. CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

Applicants aged 17 or over intending to remain in New Zealand for 24 months or longer are required to provide a police certificate from the applicant’s home country and any country in which they have lived for 5 or more years since attaining the age of 17 years. Note that the 24 month period includes time already spent in New Zealand prior to the application made.

+ Please note that a police certificate is NOT required if you have provided a police certificate to INZ within the 36 months preceding this application OR your total intended stay in New Zealand (including time already spent) is less than 24 months.

+ Certificate must be less than 6 months old when the application is submitted.

+ Providing Vietnamese police certificate #1.

+ A Vietnamese Police Certificate must be issued by the Service of Justice of the city or province where your permanent residence is registered.

8. MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS SỨC KHỎE

If you intend to be in New Zealand for more than six months but less than one year, you must take a Chest X-ray as per Chest X-ray Certificate INZ 1096.

If you intend to be in New Zealand for more than one year and you are a NOT a PhD or New Zealand Aid Programme Supported Student, you are required to complete a Chest Xray Certificate (INZ 1096).

If you intend to be in New Zealand for more than one year and you are a PhD or New Zealand Aid ProgrammeSupported Student, you must complete:

+ A full health check as per General Medical Certificate INZ 1007 unless you have provided a Medical Certificate to INZ within the 36 months preceding your application;

+ A Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ 1096).

Notes: A Chest X-ray is NOT required if:

+ You have provided a Chest X –ray Certificate INZ 1096 to INZ within the 36 months preceding this application, and

+ You have not spent the previous six consecutive months in any country that is not a low-incidence country for tuberculosis (TB).

Medical certificates must be less than 3 months old when the application is submitted.

All medical certificates must be completed by an INZ appointed panel doctor.

Notes: All documents not in English must be accompanied with an English translation from an independent and recognized translation company/service.

If you are travelling to New Zealand on business (i.e. to attend a meeting, sales conference or to purchase New Zealand goods or services), and are not receiving any payment or benefit during your time here, you will need a Business Visitor Visa.

Documents to apply for New Zealand Business Visa:

1. Visa Application Form

2. Personal documents:

+ Original passport/ Certified copy of your passport (all pages) if you cannot submit your passport at lodgment stage

+ 2 recent passport sized photos of passport quality

+ Your all-page household book (Vietnamese nationals only)

+ Vietnamese identity card (Vietnamese nationals only)

+ Curriculum Vitae authorized by your local authority

+ Family Supplementary Questionnaire

3. Employment in Vietnam

(a) Evidence of your employment, or company, or business in Viet Nam. The letter must state your position at your place of work; and

(b) A letter of confirmation from your company approving your trip and providing details about who is meeting the cost of your travel to New Zealand.

Examples of evidence of your employment could be:

+ Your employment contract;

+ A letter from your employer: The letter must be on company letterhead and must clearly identify the name and contact details of the writer;

+ Your business license;

+ Company ownership documents;

+ Business income tax or other documents showing your business or company is actively operating

4. Purpose of your trip to New Zealand

You must show us what business you intend to do while in New Zealand. This could be demonstrated by (not limited to):

+ A letter of invitation from a New Zealand company. The letter must be on company letterhead and must clearly identify the name and contact details of the writer;

+ Evidence of meetings or appointments that have been arranged;

+ Evidence of internal travel in New Zealand that has been arranged for your meetings

5. Evidence of funds

Provide evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself while in New Zealand.

As a guide, this should be approximately USD 750 (NZD 1000) per month.

Evidence of sufficient funds could be:

+ A fully completed Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry by a New Zealand citizen, resident or organization ;

+ Statement from employer or business partner, indicating which cost will be covered

+ Bank account/s showing a regular savings history. Note: any newly opened account or recent large deposit must be explained, with supporting evidence as to where the money has come from;

+ Evidence of a regular salary or wage being paid to you;

+ Other accessible and readily available funds that belong to you.

6. Commitments in Vietnam:

Evidence of your commitments showing your strong reasons to return to Vietnam at the end of your stay in New Zealand. They could include (but are not limited to) evidence that you personally

+ Have family in Vietnam;

+ Have social responsibilities or commitments in Vietnam;

+ Have funds in Vietnam;

+ Own property or assets in Vietnam

New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries backpackers or anyone else can visit, with volcanoes, glaciers, geothermal activity, luscious bush, awe-inspiring mountains, endless stretches of beaches, abundant wildlife and much, much more. However, if you’re thinking about visiting to New Zealand, passport and visa organisation is key that you must prepare firstly. You will need to apply for a visitor visa before you come to New Zealand if you are not from a visa-waiver country.

Vietnam-legal.com would like to list all documents required for New Zealand Tourist – Visitor Visa:

1. Visitor Visa Application Form

2. Personal documents:

+ Original passport/ Certified copy of your passport (all pages) if you cannot submit your passport at lodgment stage

+ 2 recent passport sized photos of passport quality

+ If you are including your partner or dependent child in your application, please submit evidence of your relationship to them, such as your household book, your marriage certificate, your child’s birth certificate.

+ If your dependent child is included in your application but the child’s other parent is not traveling with you, please provide a consent letter for the child to travel, from the non0-accompanying parent, certified by the local authority.

+ Your all-page household book (Vietnamese nationals only)

+ Vietnamese identity card (Vietnamese nationals only)

+ Curriculum Vitae authorized by your local authority

+ Family Supplementary Questionnaire

3. Financial documents:

+ Evidence of your ability to fund your stay in New Zealand, and your outward travel from New Zealand. As a guide, this should be approximately USD 750 (NZD 10000) per month.

+ Evidence of sufficient funds could be:

– A completed Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry, or

– Bank deposit books showing a saving history (Note: any newly opened account or recent large deposit must be explained, with supporting evidence as to where the money has come from)

– Bank statements, payslips

– Credit card statements and limits

– Other accessible and readily available funds that belong to you

4. Employment documents:

+ If you are employed, a letter from your employer stating:

– Your position and salary

– The length of your employment

– Your leave approval

– Name and contact details of your employer

+ If you own your own company, you must submit:

– Business license

– Recent business tax payments

+ If you are retired, provide evidence of retirement if any (E.g: Retirement certificate or pension receipt book)

5. Evidence of relationship

+ If you are visiting a boyfriend/ girlfriend, partner, relative or friend in New Zealand, please provide:

– A copy of their passport

– Letter of invitation from the person you intend to visit

– Evidence of your relationship to the relative (Birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.)

– Evidence of your relationship to your partner/ boyfriend/ girlfriend: account of the relationship and other evidence such as marriage certificate, correspondences, phone call lists, photos, etc.

6. Commitments in Vietnam:

+ Evidence of your commitments showing your strong reasons to return to Vietnam at the end of your stay in New Zealand.

+ They could include (but are not limited to) evidence that you personally

– Have social and/or family responsibilities in Vietnam;

– Are employed in Vietnam;

– Own a business in Vietnam;

– Have funds in Vietnam;

– Own property or assets in Vietnam.

7. Character Requirements:

+ If you intend to be in New Zealand for more than one year, you must:

– A guarantee of accommodation from either the educational provider, or evidence from people who prepare and are able to provide the accommodation.

Notes: All documents not in English must be accompanied with an English translation from an independent and recognized translation company/service.

A passport that is valid for at least 3 months after your departure from New Zealand;
An onward or return ticket to a country you have permission to enter; and
Sufficient money to support yourself during your stay.
