1. For documents issued in foreign country required Consular legalization to be used in Vietnam:

There are 2 ways to get Consular Legalization:

+ The first way:

Step 1: Go to Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country where documents are issued to be legalized.

Step 2: Go to Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam in that country to get Consular Legalization

With 2 steps, your documents only need translating into Vietnamese and notarizing before using in Vietnam.

+ The second way:

Step 1: Go to Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country where document is issued to be legalized and then taking this document to Vietnam.

Step 2: Go to Embassy of the country where document is issued located in Vietnam to be notarized.

Step 3: Take it to Consular Department – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam or Provincial External Relations Department to certify.

Some Embassies of some foreign countries in Vietnam accept to certify on the original document (which does not certified by Ministry of Foreign Affairs) such as Australia, France, Denmark, Ukraine, Japan, etc.

However, document issued in South Korea, America for example must be required Consular Legalization before taking to Vietnam.

Moreover, many countries do not set their Diplomatic Missions in Vietnam and vice versus such as Tanzania, Bolivia, Lebanon, etc, so document must be legalized in the third country. Thus, procedure will be more complicate and take more time.

2. For documents issued in Vietnam will be used in foreign countries: Procedures will be done into reverse order in comparison to the first way.

    I have been offered a teaching job in Vietnam and I need my documents to be legalized.

    I have four documents to be legalized

    1 My MPhil degree issued at University of Cambridge in the UK
    2. My PGCE certificate issued at Anglia University in the UK
    3. My recommendation letter issued by my previous employer in kenya
    4. My teaching license issued in London UK.

    5. I need a visa to Vietnam

    Am supposed to report at the school in January 7th 2019. Am currently in Kenya.Am a Kenyan by birth but there is no Vietnamese embassy in Kenya. The neighbouring embassy is in Tanzania.

    Please advice.
